  • Leírás: A cunning country bumpkin from Gastouni, Kitsos Charadras, arrives in Athens with a chicken under each arm and heads for the house of his uncle, the industrialist Charalampos Papatsiflikas, to ask him for the forty pounds that he has promised to give a fellow-villager as dowry to marry off his (Kitsos’) sister. He is mistaken for Kits Harrod, the rich nephew from America, who they were expecting to arrive at any moment, so he is warmly greeted. A little while later, the real Kits arrives, who, upon learning the details, approaches Kitsos and suggests that he continue to play the role of the “American” so he can discover what his relatives really think of him. The plan works, and everyone (with the exception of Julia, Charalampos’s hippy daughter) demonstrates the expected degree of greed and self-interest. Nevertheless, this does not stop Kits from marrying the eldest daughter, Anna. As for Kitsos, he takes the money for his sister’s dowry and leaves for Gastouni.
